Cooney Technologies Built an Online Cost Savings Calculator for HVAC Systems for the Fraction of the Cost of Custom Coding

The Challenge

Cooney Technologies is an HVAC firm with a specific technology that helps protect HVAC systems from freeze damage. One of the big benefits of their product is that you can switch over from using a chemical called Glycol, to using just water, which is better for the environment and energy savings. They wanted to build an online cost savings calculator for their website, to help their customers calculate how much they can save by switching over to water for freeze prevention.

We worked with consultants to initially build this tool. We decided to use Excel to implement lookup tables for temperatures and annual cooling hours of the HVAC system. We could hand the workbook out to customers and email to them, but we wanted to take it one step further, and use SpreadsheetWEB to create a better web version, where we can put it on our website, so we can track its usage and keep it gated.”

The Solution

Cooney Technologies wanted to embed this calculator on their website. This calculator was already built in Excel, and just needed to be transferred into web platforms easily. They looked into various solutions, from online spreadsheet programs, to custom coding the entire user interface and logic. These solutions did not prove to be effective in both keeping the costs down, and presenting a professional look-and-feel.

“At the end of the day, the SpreadsheetWEB team was really helpful, responding to us in a timely fashion, and actually walking us through how to do specific things. They made the process really easy to build our application, designing it, and making it look good.”

The Results

Cooney Technologies was able to build this online cost savings calculator and host it for the fraction of the cost of custom building a web application from scratch. SpreadsheetWEB’s user-friendly platform also means that they don’t need to hire developers for even the smallest change in the system – they can simply make those edits on the web, and publish them in the matter of a few minutes.

The calculator is now embedded on their website, providing their users an interactive experience. The only cost of this project to them is $99/month for their SpreadsheetWEB license.

”Before deciding to go with SpreadsheetWEB, we compared it with other solutions. For creating our own custom coded app, we got a quote for around $80,000. There’s definitely a lot of savings there for going with SpreadsheetWEB.”
