CAMBRIDGE, MA - January 18, 2013 - Software developer Pagos, Inc., has implemented SpreadsheetWEB at New Jersey City University, to create, manage and publish enrollment dashboards online. This provided security, real time calculations and charting to be used in budgetary determinations.
New Jersey City University (NJCU) has one of the most diverse enrollments in the state. 2011 enrollment consisted of more than 6,500 undergraduate students, nearly 1,700 graduate students and almost 400 continuing education students. With almost 70 Undergraduate and Graduate programs and a 2012 fiscal budget of over $170 Million to manage, a flexible tool was needed to analyze the extensive amount of enrollment information. This data was housed in massive spreadsheets, and managements’ desire was to turn it into interactive dashboards that could be made available to members of the University community. In addition, realtime filtering of the data was essential to provide up-to-the-minute, cumulative results. Charts and graphs were also required for easily interpreted visual representation. The exact calculation of informative indicators, such as retention rates, would also be necessary, given the nature of the business and the decision drivers.
After reviewing a number of options, NJCU recognized that SpreadsheetWEB has all the features meeting the business requirements. Pagos provided the technology and services to transform NJCU’s raw data into interactive, web-based enrollment dashboards, which would then be available in real time to NJCU staff. These enrollment dashboards were designed in Microsoft Excel, giving NJCU staff transparency and access to data, calculations and visualizations in real time. Anyone with basic Excel functionality that was given clearance, could review and, if needed, update those reports. The Dashboards were deployed on Pagos’ cloud platform, without the need for infrastructure or technical support from NJCU staff or their IT department.
“Today’s business environment is overwhelmingly data-rich. Simultaneously, schedules are increasingly tight. There is an absolute need to provide information as clearly and efficiently as possible. One truly efficient way to do this is by providing intuitive, easily understood matrices and dashboards.” said Carmen Panlilio, Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management for New Jersey City University. “Pagos provided the technology and business support solution that allowed us to share information in a way that made sense to our higher education community. The ease of accessing and using the data encouraged its inclusion in the informed-decision making process.”
“Although there are a number of data visualization and reporting products in the market, most organizations still prefer using Microsoft Excel. This is because it is the most common, flexible and simple-to-use tool available,” said Ugur Kadakal, Ph.D., CEO of Pagos. “Our clients come to us with very rich data sources, mountain-sized spreadsheets and a clear need to access and understand the information hidden within. With NJCU, as will all our clients, we provide the technology and support needed to turn their data into informed decisions, using SpreadsheetWEB software. It is faster and more affordable than any solution available in the market today. The same model is applicable to any higher education organization, as well as countless others.”
